A more complete picture of your health

If your care team has recommended genetic testing through MyOme, it’s natural to have questions. Genetic testing can reveal meaningful insights about your health and your family’s health, but your genetic information is only one part of the picture.

With your permission, MyOme may also access information from your electronic health records through Health Information Exchange (HIE). This can give our clinical team a more complete picture of your health and help us interpret your genetic results in the context of your medical history.

Your participation is your choice. We want you to understand what information we access, why we use it, and how we protect it before you decide.

Health Information Exchange (HIE) Consent

HIE allows healthcare information to be securely shared between participating healthcare organizations.

When you consent to HIE access, MyOme can retrieve relevant information from your medical records and incorporate that information into the genetic testing process. This information can provide important context that may not be captured during a genetic test alone.

What information does MyOme access?

Depending on your healthcare records and the purpose of your testing, information available through HIE may include:

  • Diagnoses and medical conditions
  • Laboratory results and measurements
  • Medications
  • Clinical findings and other relevant information in your medical record
  • Other health information that may help us interpret your genetic results

We do not sell your identifiable health information.

Your health information is used to provide and support your testing and care, improve our products and services as permitted by your consent. We take privacy and security seriously and maintain safeguards designed to protect your information.

Your identifiable health information is not sold or shared with third parties for commercial purposes.

Your information stays under your control.

What does "de-identified" mean?

De-identification means removing information that could reasonably identify you, in accordance with applicable HIPAA standards. Before information is used for research or product improvement, it is de-identified in a HIPAA compliant process.

De-identified information may help us improve diagnostic accuracy, strengthen our products, and develop better ways to use genomic and clinical information to support patient care.

Common questions about genetic testing

  • Earlier tests may have looked at a narrow set of genes. By looking at more of the DNA, MyOme helps find answers that might have been missed before. Science also changes quickly—new research may offer new answers.

  • Yes. Exome and genome tests can find many genetic changes, but not all. Some parts of DNA are hard to read, and some conditions do not have a known genetic cause yet.

  • Some results may show genetic risks that run in families. Your doctor may recommend that family members consider testing or discuss what the result means for future pregnancies.

  • Your medical history provides important context for understanding your genetic results. Information from your medical record may reveal clinical findings that are not available from genetic testing alone and can help MyOme interpret your results more accurately.

  • No. MyOme does not sell your identifiable health information.

    Your information is used for testing, care, and other purposes described in your consent and privacy materials. When information is used for research or product improvement, it is de-identified in accordance with applicable standards.

  • You should review your results with the doctor who ordered your testing to understand what they mean and how they might impact next steps. MyOme also provides access to optional genetic counseling services. Your provider can request this by emailing support@myome.com.

  • The cost of testing depends on your payment type, insurance plan, and eligibility for our financial assistance program, MyOme Access. Learn more and apply at myome.com/access.

  • MyOme retains information as required for clinical, legal, regulatory, and other applicable purposes. However, once your testing process is complete, MyOme no longer has access to new information through HIE unless you’ve explicitly consented to ongoing access.
