As the onsite General Supervisor, you will lead laboratory operations in both R&D and clinical processes. You will combine your technical skills, equipment and reagent management expertise, and passion for good laboratory practices to help build a high quality and efficient laboratory, with the clinical operations compliant to CLIA and internal policies. The scope of the work includes onsite experiment planning, execution, and write up; sample collection kit assembly; shipping and tracking of samples; coordination of at-home phlebotomy; and processing of clinical samples and coordination with MyOme’s reference laboratories. Your temperament should be nimble, flexible, pragmatic, and collaborative.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for managing laboratory operations and functions, including both R&D and Clinical
    • Participation in IRB-approved research study processes including, but not limited to, preparation of sample collection kits, coordination of at-home phlebotomy service, shipping and coordination of samples
    • Participation in R&D experiments for exploration or development of new technical platforms
    • Participation in assay development and optimization processes
    • Management of overall laboratory functions, in compliance with CLIA and COLA, as applicable
      • Materials inventory system
      • Equipment management system, including equipment maintenance and calibration requirements
      • Sample inventory and storage system
  • Responsible for handling patient samples and performing established testing procedures as needed.
  • Provide onsite day-to-day supervision of testing personnel when patient testing is occurring. The onsite general supervisor must be responsible for the proper performance of all laboratory procedures.
    • Accessible to laboratory personnel at all times during clinical operations, to provide on-site consultation to resolve technical problems in accordance with policies and procedures.
    • Responsible for day-to-day supervision and oversight of the clinical laboratory operation and personnel performing testing
      • Be responsible for providing day-to-day supervision of high complexity test performance by testing personnel;
      • Be responsible for direct supervision of non-licensed personnel by licensed personnel, as appropriate;
      • Be responsible for ensuring appropriate inventory and management systems are established and maintained to support clinical testing
      • Be responsible for monitoring test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure that acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained;
      • Be responsible for maintaining and securing patient information in accordance with HIPAA regulations and internal policies;
      • Perform a quality assurance review and document the review process by signing off on all quality control and preventive maintenance procedures and forms;
      • Assure that all remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications;
      • Ensure that test results are not reported until all corrective actions have been taken and the test system is properly functioning;
      • Provide orientation to laboratory personnel; and
      • Train and evaluate the competency of all clinical laboratory personnel and assure that the staff maintain their competency to perform test procedures and report test results promptly, accurately and proficiently.

Ideal Skills and Experience

  • Minimum Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology, Biology, or Chemistry.
  • Licensed in the state of California as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Generalist or (limited) licensed as a Clinical Genetics Molecular Biologist Scientist (CGMBS)
  • Has at least 2 years of laboratory testing experience in high complexity testing involving molecular genetics
  • Highly preferable to have previous experience in managing clinical laboratory personnel and operations management
  • Highly preferable to have experience with regulatory and accreditation of laboratory operations per CLIA and in CAP, COLA, and NYSDOH – CLEP.

As the Lead NGS Technician, you will lead laboratory operations under R&D and assist with clinical processes as needed. You will combine your technical skills, equipment and reagent management expertise, and passion for good laboratory practices to help build a high quality and efficient laboratory, utilizing new technologies and laboratory applications. The scope of the work includes onsite experiment planning, execution, and write up; sample collection kit assembly; shipping and tracking of samples; coordination of at-home phlebotomy; and processing of clinical samples under the direction of the general supervisor and coordination with MyOme’s reference laboratories. Your temperament should be nimble, flexible, pragmatic, and collaborative.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform bench level laboratory work, which includes, performing DNA extraction, performing calculations, preparing reagents, operating analytical instruments, and maintaining accurate records in compliance with internal SOPs and external regulations. 
  • Assume responsibility for general laboratory maintenance and housekeeping, including receiving and cataloguing of samples, organization and purchasing of laboratory reagents, working with customers/vendors, keeping track of deliveries, maintaining laboratory stocks, and participating in technology development. 
  • Organize lab protocols, manuals, MSDS patient sample records, and other materials. 
  • Facilitate adherence to lab maintenance and safety procedures. 
  • Provide timely feedback regarding lab issues. 
  • Maintain impartial and professional relationships with all lab members. 
  • Serve as lab liaison for Facilities.
  • Work independently or under the guidance of a remote manager.
  • Maintain contact with external or internal customers as required to furnish or obtain information or reports, to provide services, or resolve day-to-day problems. 
  • Utilize literature reviews, protocols, networking and prior laboratory experience to assist with experimental design, assay development, and workflow optimization.

Ideal Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, biotechnology, or similar field. 
  • Experience with DNA extraction from blood and/or saliva required
  • Standard molecular biology lab techniques: PCR, qPCR, gel electrophoresis
  • Experience performing nucleic acid QA / QC assays including nanodrop, qubit, bioanalyzer / Tapestation etc. 
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instruction and apply good documentation practices. 
  • Comfortable gowning and working in a cleanroom environment or in a Biosafety Cabinet.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Preferred but not required:
    • Masters degree
    • Experience performing a complete NGS workflow: DNA extraction, library preparation, and running on Illumina platform machine. 
    • Experience extracting high MW DNA for long read sequencing. 
    • Experience with RNA extraction purification, reverse transcription and library preparation.
